This discovery took place on April 16 in the home of Rob and Gracie in Crystal Lake, located about 80 km northwest of Chicago. But how did an old bag from the famous fast food restaurant end up in the house? The mystery remains intact. “Rob was in the bathroom replacing the old toilet paper fixture. Pulling it out, he noticed a piece of fabric rolled up and piled inside the wall” Gracie told our CNN colleagues.

“At that point, we both looked at each other wondering if we were going to call the police because we had just discovered evidence from a crime scene! We were very relieved to have just found the old McDonald’s bag” they confide with humor. Rob and Gracie then took the bag into their kitchen to carefully open it. Inside, they found two hamburger wrappers and half-eaten fries, decades old.

“We saw the fries and we were like, ‘This is unreal.’ How the hell are those fries still in that bag and how are they so well preserved? It was crazy “ Gracie added. McDonald’s fries are generally known for their particularly salty taste, but the couple said these relics had no smell. The couple picked up some fries to find out their texture and were surprised by their solidity, crispiness and brown color, despite their decrepit appearance.

A decades old McDonald’s

While researching the logo on the bag they discovered, the couple learned that it had been used in McDonald’s production from 1955 to 1961, which coincided with when the house was built. Rob and Gracie then realized that one of the first McDonald’s in the area had been opened down the street from their house in 1959, the same year their house was built. The bag also contained the original mascot of the fast food chain, named “Speedee”.

Incredible, isn’t it?
