A judicial inquiry was opened yesterday, Friday April 29, 2022, in Fez, conducted by the judicial police under the supervision of the prosecution, to find out the ins and outs of the case of the kitten killed by a dog, on the order of his mistress, and whose video has been circulating on the web since last Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

It is a cruel video that was filmed and shared on the networks, last Wednesday, April 27, in Fez. We see a dog kill, on the orders of his mistress, a kitten, isolated, weak and helpless. Having gone viral, the video caused an outcry on social networks and the indignation of Internet users who called for the culprit of these acts to be prosecuted.

An investigation was thus opened, yesterday, Friday, April 29, by the judicial police, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to find out the ins and outs of this story, we learn from judicial sources.

The hashtag “jail for the cat killer” has also been spreading widely over the past two days on social media, with many decrying the torture and death of this kitten.

Moreover, it should be recalled that the Penal Code provides for sanctions against any person who has committed acts of torture against an animal.

Article 601 states that “whoever poisons draft, mount or load animals, horned animals, sheep, goats or other livestock, guard dogs or fish in ponds, fishponds or reservoirs, is punished imprisonment of one to five years and a fine of 200 to 500 dirhams”

Article 602, meanwhile, specifies that “anyone who, without necessity, kills or mutilates one of the animals mentioned in the preceding article or any domestic animal, in the premises, buildings, enclosures and outbuildings or on the land whose master of the killed or mutilated animal is the owner, tenant or farmer, is punished by imprisonment of two to six months and a fine of 120 to 250 dirhams. If the offense was committed with violation of the fence, the penalty of imprisonment is doubled”.

It should also be noted that Morocco is a member of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), an intergovernmental organization responsible for defining animal health standards aimed at improving animal health and welfare.
