A couple goes on vacation
That phone call Shaun Stead, 48, and his wife, Michelle, 49, will remember forever.
While on vacation, Taylor, their 17-year-old son, announces to his parents that the family dog is seriously ill.
A dog with parvovirus
Neither one nor two, the couple from the United Kingdom decides to shorten their trip to Tenerife in Spain to return to their pet.
The 13-month-old German Shorthaired Pointer has a strain of parvovirus that vets have described as “one of the worst cases” they have ever seen.
Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious disease and is spread to dogs through contact with feces or an infected environment.
Nine days hospitalized in intensive care
Murphy was so ill that he was unable to walk. Upon arrival at the veterinary clinic, the dog had to be transported via cart from the parking lot directly to an isolation room.
Murphy had to be fed with a tube: “‘He gave us a few tail strokes when he started to feel better and gradually, within nine days, his wonderful character came back and he started eating,’ said his master in the columns of The Mirror.
In total, the animal will have remained nine days in intensive care. As the veterinarians will explain later, vaccination saves his life.
