A place of choice for the restaurant Au Comptoir, in Clermont-Ferrand

Place des Carmes, completely renovated, now offers a completely different face. And a very beautiful terrace at the Comptoir, with its trees, its flowers, its wall of water and its absence of cars… What to enjoy a little corner of tranquility in this district. Inside, everything was redone in 2018: white and blue-green walls, bistro-style wooden chairs and tables, benches, cushions and a large counter that invites you to sit down for a coffee.

The boss

Isabelle Faure arrived at Le Comptoir four years ago. A retraining, after more than thirty years in the same company, but also a return to her roots, since she studied at the hotel school Sidoine-Apollinaire, in Clermont-Ferrand. A choice she does not regret. ” I like it. It’s my whole life. And his broad smile attests to it.

The kitchen

Simon Chirent is a young chef trained at the Clermont-Ferrand Institute of Trades. Passed in particular by the Auberge de la Moreno, “which really made me want to do this job”, and by the Lyon restaurant of Pierre Orsi, “where I learned the organization and the precision of the taste”, the now at the head of the kitchens of Au Comptoir. He offers traditional cuisine, “with quality products that follow the seasons”, preferably local. We thus find a pork tenderloin with a rosemary-honey juice and its mashed potatoes, tapas mixing shuttles with duck breast, falafels, mini-quiches, but also vegetarian dishes… And to note, on Friday evening , on sunny days, it’s plancha on the terrace!

Our favorite

This week, no crush on a particular dish. But rather for an atmosphere. Because we really had the impression, while having lunch in the middle of trees and flowers, of not being in Clermont-Ferrand. To feel a little on vacation. And honestly, for a lunch break before returning to work, it clears your head.

The bill

Dish of the day at 12.50 euros, lunch formula at 21 euros, butcher’s cut and vegetarian dish at 14.90 euros, salads from 15 to 18 euros, desserts at 4.90 euros, evening tapas at 1.50 euros each . Restaurant vouchers accepted.
