Two cats have been seriously injured in recent days, in the town of Sainte-Croix-Volvestre. Tests detected the presence of lead in their bodies.

Wednesday September 14, Sainte-Croix-Volvestre, 7:40 a.m. Sophie Soux has been up for a few minutes when her dog is about to make a sad discovery. In the grass surrounding the hearth, the doggie stops in front of a little animal in bad shape. Bandy, a 5 year old young cat, is in a sorry state, bleeding. Neither one nor two, the couple headed for the Perched Cat veterinary clinic, near Saint-Girons. “The cat was not well. I was in a dressing gown when we took the car, ”recalls the owner of the cat.

Quickly taken care of, the latter is placed on a drip. “At first, the vet thought it was a car that had hit him.” Well battered, Bandy passes an X-ray which reveals the presence of a surprising material in his sub-orbital part and his broken jaw: lead. “He had plenty of it in his body,” says the veterinarian. Looking at the x-ray images, the largest piece measures one centimeter. No more doubt, the pet was shot.

A complaint has been filed

“We thought he was going to lose his left eye,” says Lauren Maurette, the clinic’s veterinarian. The pellets are finally removed from him. In addition, three teeth are removed, his palate is sewn up and his jaw is redone. After five days in hospital, where he was fed by tube, unable to eat, the protege of Sophie Soux is back at the couserannaise house Monday, September 19, late morning.

But the sixty-something and her husband are not at the end of their surprises. A leaden cat is already enough to amaze. So two… It had been a few days since the second of the family’s three cats, Maxou, had disappeared. “We hadn’t even been back from the clinic 15 minutes when my husband informed me that Maxou had come home injured. He too was shot. He limps and reveals a slight wound at the level of one ear.

Injured, the cat Bandy was hospitalized for five days.

Once again, heading to the veterinary practice. For the 6-year-old cat, Lauren Maurette’s medical diagnosis is clear: “The paw was largely affected by lead. The fibula (leg bone) was fractured, exploded. And in passing, the bullet damaged the muscles located around it. According to the firm, Maxou would have taken a bullet through the right hind leg, which then came out through the head. He is currently on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. The pellets present in the leg could not be removed.

“Usually, this cat spends its life outside. There, it hardly goes out anymore. It is traumatized”, explains Sophie, looking sad, suspecting a rifle shot. This owner of an Aude butcher therefore decided to file a complaint, Monday, September 19, in Sainte-Croix-Volvestre. The Prat gendarmerie, who went there, recently took charge of the mysterious case.
