Imagine yourself at work, installed at your desk, your dog lying quietly at your feet… This scene is not unusual within Mars Petcare, an American group, whose Saint-Denis-de-l’Hôtel site – French headquarters and factory – employs more than 500 people.
For forty years, the prepared food specialist and hygiene products for pets, offers its employees go to work with their dogs. Mars Petcare has also set up an outdoor “dog park” in its Loire Valley premises. A practice reinforced by the return to the office, after two years confined.
At present, the Saint-Denis-de-l’Hôtel site receives a dozen caninespunctually or regularly, and “many new files are being processed”, according to Donatienne du Vignaudirector of communications at Mars Petcare.
A “charter of good practices”
Employees can bring their dogs as many days as they want “provided that they preserve their well-being and that they find their rhythm”, explains Donatienne du Vignau. Upstream, they obtain the agreement of their manager and their close colleagues.
The company has established a “charter of good practices”. The doggies welcomed must be in good health, present up-to-date vaccinations, be clean, socialized and educated :
“The employee is responsible for the presence of his animal. It is up to him to pick up his droppings, to walk him.”
According to the director of communication, the dog “brings the employee a better work-life balancereduces his stress, increases his productivity, makes him more loyal to the company, strengthens the bond between employees”.
Eloise Perreuxan employee in Saint-Denis-de-l’Hôtel, brings her animal to the office when her days are less busy “to take advantage of him”:
“It allows him not to be alone, to meet many people and other dogs. And in times of heat wave, he takes advantage of the coolness of the offices.”
What are the benefits for her? “First of see my dog’s well-being, but also to exchange with other associates thanks to him. Not considering his presence is good for my health. She makes me get up from my desk and take my eyes off my screen!”
Tuesday July 12at its premises in Saint-Denis-de-l’hôtel, Mars Petcare organized a day “dogs at work”. All of its staff were invited to participate in this event aimed at promoting animal welfare. On the program, an exchange with Romain Dumas, general manager of Mars Petcare France; sharing experiences between employees; a workshop on the future of work and the benefits of the presence of dogs in the office, led by a canine behaviorist…
