In the historic heart of Rouen, in a few weeks several food establishments have lowered the curtain but have quickly found a buyer. We take a gourmet tour of the new addresses in the Place du Vieux-Marché.
Highly sought after, embellished after long works, the Place du Vieux-Marché in Rouen is the place to be
! In recent weeks, several gourmet addresses have changed hands. A great renewal! There is something for every taste.
At 24 rue Rollon, at the corner of the Place du Vieux-Marché, the favorite address of fans of the South-West closed its doors on May 31. Pierre Champion, who opened the restaurant-delicatessen in 1992, was so much a part of the landscape that we hardly saw him go white with his beautiful musketeer mustache. His successor Big Fernand promises big, local and good burgers “Like a burger but much better because concocted with never-before-seen products such as veal, for example”. The bet: speed and quality. In ten years of existence, 61 restaurants have grown in France in Luxembourg and London.
At 22 Place du Vieux-Marché, the Hardy house, founded in 1935 and which has seen three generations of delicatessen delicatessens, gives up a prime location. On approximately 500 m² (ground floor and one floor) it is Italian Trattoria (IT), a family brand created in 2013 by two Franco-Calabrian brothers, Gio and Renato Iera, which is set up. Everything is made on site with products from the sun, in an elegant setting. The concept ? No table service but a kitchen area open to the dining room. You order at the bar, you sit down and pick up your dish when your beeper buzzes. IT already has around forty franchises.
At 1 rue de la Pie, at the corner of the Place du Vieux-Marché and the Rue du Vieux-Palais, the cozy and trendy restaurant bar O’Baristo is under construction. Crazy chef Éric Autin arrives from Quincampoix to open L’incontournable. For his second baby, after the Rest’Authentique created in 2014, on the North plateau, he arrives on the most beautiful place in Rouen to write a new story. Everything is renovated with a kitchen open to the room. On the plates it announces a natural gastronomy, without sophistication, to reinterpret the moment with seasonal and quality products. If the deadlines are met, everything will be ready on June 17.
We are waiting to know…
Who will replace the restaurant La Place, 26, place du Vieux-Marché? Will the gourmet and contemporary brasserie opened by chef Gill Tournadre in 2012 be transformed into a new gourmet address? In what style? Patience.
Also a mystery, a little further on, for the Little grocery store, 9 rue Massacre, opened in 2015 which closed its doors after creating a second store in Franqueville-Saint-Pierre, at the end of 2021.
