Dog Who Had Been Missing For Weeks Showed Up At Her Owner’s Work

Mrs. June Rountree and her husband scoured their neighborhood in Dothan, Alabama, for several nights in search of their missing dog Abby, but they could not find her. Three weeks later, events take an unexpected turn and have them convinced that Abby is either the smartest dog or the luckiest in Dothan.

The woman, 60, realized Abby was missing when she went to the garden of her house and did not find her there. The Rountree family searched the neighborhood for their black and white dog, but couldn’t find her.

June has worked as a cashier at Walmart for many years. One day, while working at her usual shift, she heard a rather strange commotion. She tried to observe what was going on and discovered that there was a black dog sneaking into the store, and people were trying to grab him to get him out of the store.

A dog disappeared for several days

June said according to The Washington Post:

“I said, ‘No way! “.

At the time, June was still watching as several staff members followed the dog down the aisles, but couldn’t catch her.

Walmart employee Danielle Robinette commented:

“I was like; what is happening here ? I’m an animal lover, so I followed the animal and he ran to ledger number 6.”

Surprisingly, it was Abby! June was then very surprised and obviously recognized her immediately by the white fur around her muzzle.

June commented:

“I called her name and she answered immediately, she came over, I leaned over and hugged her. My feelings took over, I couldn’t speak, I was in shock and I couldn’t believe it.”

As staff surrounded her and her dog, June hugged Abby for several minutes in silence. Danielle said her partner looked up with tears in her eyes and told them it was Abby, her missing dog.

June says:

“I couldn’t express how I felt, they were all around me and I couldn’t even talk to them. »

Danielle started taking pictures of this emotional moment and then shared them on Facebook. Her post quickly went viral, eliciting thousands of reactions. Amid the happiness, June claimed she had no idea where Abby had been for the past few weeks, or how she had managed to find her.

June then added:

“I never thought she would show up at Walmart. »

The woman was hoping for a reunion, but always thought Abby would be waiting for her outside her house when she got home from work.

Walmart is about a mile from the Rountrees’ house, but Abby had never entered the store. Indeed, her family had only taken her to the parking lot and the woods behind the store on several occasions.

June commented:

“How she knew I was working there, I don’t know. »

Perhaps the dog was walking near the site and remembered that she had been there before, and wanted to inspect if she could find help.

Clive Wynne, professor of psychology, gave his professional opinion:

“I suspect the animal was wandering around random places, until it came across a place that was familiar to it. I think it’s very likely that she was in distress and trying to find a safe home. A dog’s navigation is not perfect, but it recognizes certain cues…”.

Another surprising point is that Abby wasn’t malnourished, it seems someone fed her the whole time she was away.

June clarifies:

“I want to thank those who came to see her and gave her something to eat. »

After telling the story, June took her lunch break and drove Abby home, where she was reunited with Coco, the family’s other dog. After a great meal, Abby went straight to her comfy bed, curled up and fell asleep, so peaceful to be home.
