The story is unusual. Within the 9 hectares of the site of the Paul-Sérusier general and technological high school, where 800 young people rub shoulders (not counting some 600 adults trained at Greta), a preserved natural area of 5,000 square meters, dedicated to biodiversity, has been developed. . “It is an educational space attached to the establishment, explains Eric Joncour, the headmaster. With the support of the regional council, we work each year with new “co-delegates” supervised by two teachers”.
Discoveries and planting of certain species of plants, installation and management of hives, best practices related to endemic flora… This privileged place has recently come to reveal some surprises, in this case its occupation by a deer. “According to the veterinary services we have requested, it seems that the mother of this deer would have given birth in the area, on our site, or nearby, during the second confinement”.
This animal being a wild animal, the school finds itself faced with a complex problem (especially given the start of the rutting period!): successfully moving it gently. “The young deer is not imprisoned at all, specifies Eric Joncour. We are not in a zoo here. But as it is a wild animal, we have health and personal safety instructions”.
Also, for the moment, students do not have access to their site. “We contacted the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB): a specialized technical agent should come in the next few days to take stock of the situation, and allow us to consider travel arrangements, obviously respecting the animal, that we must protect in the same way”. Verdict early next week.
