Fire in the middle of the night, 11 people evacuated

On the night of Sunday April 17 to Monday April 18, 2022, around 2:15 a.m., a fire broke out in the kitchens and the reserve of the Keys and Co Restaurant, located along the avenue du 6 juin, facing the Rives de l’Orne, in a five-storey building. 11 people living in the upper levels had been evacuated by the firefighters, and fortunately, “no casualties were to be deplored”, according to them.

This fire had caused a stir in the city center and on social networks. A solidarity pot had even been launched by a faithful of the restaurant and had made it possible to collect nearly 1100 €.

Cans of beer and pack of cigarettes

Wondering at first if it was not an accidental event, the police quickly focused on the criminal trail. Indeed, on the spot, broken glass indicated that a break-in had taken place. Cans of beer and a pack of cigarettes found on the spot had enabled investigators to trace the alleged perpetrator of the fire.

They carried DNA traces of a 25-year-old young man known to the police.

18 months in prison

Presented in immediate appearance on June 15, the young man imprisoned for other facts had asked for a delay to prepare his defense. Judged this Wednesday, July 6, the man was heavily alcoholic that evening. He was finally sentenced to three years in prison, including 18 months. He should compensate the victims and is prohibited from having a weapon for five years. He is kept in detention.

Refurbishment work on the Keys and Co coffee shop is underway. “We hope to reopen in mid-September,” explains Stéphanie Telling, co-manager of the establishment with her mother.
