“Moustikat’s”, a young association in the south of Martinique, has decided to save stray cats by organizing collections to feed and sterilize them. “Reducing the stray cat population is an approach that is consistent with animal welfare, while improving the living environment of citizens and protecting wildlife.”
It is not uncommon to encounter stray cats on the streets, in residential areas, near garbage cans or on beaches, in search of food. Since 1eh July 2021, the association “Moustikat’s” established in the southern part of the island (in Marin) has set itself the goal of fighting animal cruelty in general and in particular protecting these wandering felines, often abandoned by their owners and not sterilized.
We don’t have a refuge, so we feed them in certain places, mainly at Le Marin and Sainte-Anne, while trying to remain discreet because people might be more tempted to leave them. But our association’s goal is precisely to encourage the owners not to leave them on the public road, especially the females after a first litter. They must be sterilized at all costs (…). To achieve this goal, the association regularly organizes the capture and sterilization of unidentified stray cats, therefore a first collection of donations, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the shopping center Acajou in Le Lamentin. Several customers donated food and accessories to support “Moustikat’s” volunteers.

Any unidentified cat found more than 200 meters from residences or any cat found more than 1,000 meters from its owner’s home and not under his immediate supervision is considered to be in a state of wandering, as well as any cat whose owner is not known and which is seized on public roads or on other people’s property.
During the year 2021, the first actions of the “Moustikat’s” association allowed the sterilization of 78 cats.
In four years, a pair of cats can give birth to 20,000 kittens. It therefore seems urgent to us to continue our actions and be able to do it more quickly.
