Live from the stadium
As in 2020, Iga Swiatek went straight to the stands once the match was won. For the Pole, tennis is a team sport (she also wrote “team Swiatek” on her shoes), and she rushed to her box to hug her father, her coach and all her relatives.
Unlike two years ago, on the other hand, it did not struggle to find its way in the spans of the Philippe-Chatrier court. New proof, if any, that she is now at home in the lair of Roland-Garros.
Crowned for the second time, without having been worried in the final as in almost all the rounds she played (only the Chinese Zheng, in the round of 16, stole a round from her), Iga Swiatek is clearly on cloud nine in this moment. Indisputable world number 1, she has just won her thirty-fifth match in a row on the circuit (equaling Venus Williams’ record for the XXIe century).
The question now is: where will the young Polish woman stop, who affirmed after the semi-final “the sky is my limit, I still have a lot of room for improvement”. Today, the sky became overcast as the final progressed, and a clap of thunder echoed in the distance, a few minutes before the last exchange. But for Iga Swiatek, the sun is shining in Paris.
