Lawyer Akere Muna wants countries victimized by Glencore to receive compensation

Published on:

Lawyer Akere Muna does not understand that the United States judge has fined the company Glencore for corruption and that the countries that are victims of these actions do not benefit from any compensation.

After admitting acts of corruption and practices of bribery, the Anglo-Swiss multinational trading company will have to pay at least one billion dollars to the United States for these actions.

Cameroonian lawyer Akere Muna, founder of Transparency International Cameroon, calls on his country and other African states to join the process initiated by the US courts so that they too benefit from reparations.

In the US they [Glencore] is charged through the law punishing corruption abroad. The Americans suffered no real damage. So, on the corruption committed beyond their borders, they will easily get 1.5 billion dollars. This money, in my opinion, should go back to our countries, which are languishing in poverty with all kinds of debt. This story is amazing. Let’s go to New York, file a case against Glencore and ask them to compensate us too, since we are the ones who suffered the damage.
