Lorraine. The shelter already full, the SPA calls for help to find families for cats and dogs

The Velaine-en-Haye SLPAin Meurthe-et-Moselle, fears the worst and launched Friday July 1st a call for help on social media.

The dreaded wave of summer dropouts hasn’t started yet and yet, the shelter is already packed and currently displays complete.

24 dogs for 22 boxes and 13 cats arrived in one day

“We currently have 24 dogs while we only have 22 boxes… And with the massive arrival of litters of kittens, we are at around fifty cats to adopt”, explains a volunteer on site.

“Between the animals arriving from the pound, the abandonments, the numerous seizures, and the massive arrivals of kittens, we no longer have a free place”, specifies the publication.

That same day, the shelter received no less than 13 cats… “We are no longer able to accommodate abandonments for the moment, we can only put these animals on the waiting list”, adds the SLPA.

Volunteers call for adoption

To respond to this crisis, volunteers hope to find good families to adopt the unfortunate little ones they have taken in and throw a call for adoption.

We welcome many sociable adult cats, who will however need to be able to access the outside, many kittens, sociable or to be socialized, many dogs, most of whom have a dark past and who will need time to find a balance…and the shelter is of course not the ideal place for them to regain their confidence.

Adoption from a shelter is certainly not free, but it includes identification cats and dogs, the vaccination as well as sterilization.

It is necessary to count 250 € for a vaccinated, identified and neutered male dog and 300 € for a female. For cats, first-vaccinated, identified and sterilized it will be 140 €. “As for our seniors, we are looking for a nice retirement for them, so it’s not at all the same budgets,” concludes the volunteer.
