“The trauma was and remains present, forever, for all of us.” Six years after the attack on the Promenade des Anglais, the lawyers of the Nice bar paid tribute this Wednesday, as every year, to their colleague Myriam Bellazouz, one of the 86 victims killed on July 14, 2016.
Three years earlier, Me Bellazouz had joined “the great family of the Nice Bar”, said the president Adrien Verrier. A “solar sister, benevolent, smiling, fraternal, happy to live and proud of her dress”, underlines Me Magali Gilly, president of the Union of young lawyers (UJA) of Nice. Myriam Bellazouz was committed to it. His “human and professional qualities” were unanimously recognized.
The young woman was mowed down at the age of 29, with her mother Léa, by the white truck which decimated the Prom’. “We will never forget having looked for you so much, you and your mom, with the hope of finding you alive”remembers Me Gilly, her voice gripped by emotion. “The Nice Bar has been in mourning for six years today. Six years trying to explain the inexplicable”insists Vice-Bâtonnier Cécile Schwal.
On the eve of the official commemorations, several dozen lawyers gathered around the wreaths laid by the bar and the UJA. A special year, when the terrorist trial will open on September 5 before the Special Court of Assizes in Paris. “A new ordeal for hundreds of direct or indirect victims”, recalls Me Schwal. The President of the Bar Verrier will plead there alongside Me Hmad, on behalf of their deceased colleague: “This trial will also be a tribute that will be paid to you.”
