Near Cholet, the village hall converted into a tourist reception

The decision to open the village hall to tourist reception was quickly taken by the elected officials of Maulévrier (Maine-et-Loire). Indeed, the growing influx of visitors for several years has increased at the start of spring.

Mayor Dominique Hervé recalls that“In 2021, the Oriental Park recorded 150,000 paid admissions, and 10,000 people went to discover the vegetable garden of Château Colbert. The footpaths, the heritage trails, the memorial of Cardinal Luçon are also popular, irrigating the local economy”.

direct benefits for “catering of course, the supermarket and services. Even the hairdressers benefit from the passage of tourists crossing the region, going to the spectacle of Puy du Fou or visiting our castles of the Loire”, emphasizes the aedile. Maulévrier has therefore become a tourist town.

Faced with this observation, the municipality had to welcome its guests in the best possible way. “A little in a hurry, we decided to open the village hall to welcome visitors from 1er May to September 30, 7 days a week, to provide an information point, but also an open space for artists or other events. »

And Dominique Hervé to continue: “All economic players have their place here to make people talk about them. It is also a place of rest where people can quench their thirst, eat something and find toilets accessible to people with reduced mobility. » While emphasizing that “this place remains the village hall of the Maulévrais”.

Also, when associative events, belote contests for example, blood donation or marriage are organized, the managers of the Snake bar (read below) will free up the space and the terrace.

“A trial run”

“This is one of the obligations contained in the authorization for temporary occupation of the public domain, in the same way as the conditions of cleaning, maintenance and others”, explains the mayor.

In addition, the City is thinking about parking for visitors. The two car parks of the cynodrome are open, and the safety of pedestrians crossing the road at the entrance to the Oriental Park is a sensitive point.

“It’s a start, a trial run. Much remains to be done.” concludes the chosen one, already thinking of the 2023 season.

L’Entre 2, a seasonal stopover to quench your thirst or have lunch

The village hall of Maulévrier also being devoted to tourist reception for five months, it was necessary to find a team to provide a bar service and snacks.

“We applied as soon as we learned of the call for tenders launched by the town hall at the beginning of March, explain Christophe Pasquier and Cédric Yvon, co-manager of the bar maulévrais Snake, which also serves crêpes and galettes. It was a big challenge! The municipality asked us to open at the beginning of May. »

“Professionals”

An opportunity they did not want to miss, convinced that the proximity to the Oriental Park and the cultural and tourist dimension of the city are assets. This is how Entre 2 opened for the season.

“The municipality also wanted local supplies: bread, charcuterie, caterers, cheese, everything had to be local, specify the bosses. In addition, we had to accept exceptional closures, about a fortnight by the end of September. »

A race against time reflected their determination: “In less than two months, we had to do all the administrative procedures, find funding, train, buy furniture, machines and put together a team of eight people. Tradespeople, mostly Maulévrais motivated by the project and the challenge, without whom nothing would have been possible. »

Today, on the 120 m² terrace and the 170 m² kitchen and dining room, the team is able to accommodate up to 85 people.

Breakfast and little hunger

In addition to refreshing drinks and coffee, it offers a breakfast formula from 9 a.m. or, to satisfy a little hunger between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., sandwiches, croque-monsieur, quiches, pancakes and galettes, as well as salads, mixed planchas and of course, desserts.
