Rescue of 40 cats, including 17 kittens, who lived with a person overwhelmed

An animal protection association has achieved its greatest rescue by intervening in a person in financial difficulty and having lost control over his cats. 40 felines were discovered and cared for there.

It was initially to rescue a few dogs, but it turned into a rescue operation that lasted several days and involved dozens of cats. A story told by The Monroe News.

The association Friends of Companion Animals (FOCA) intervened in a house of Temperance in the state of Michigan. Its members discovered 17 kittens, 20 adult cats and 3 nursing cats, all neglected and in need of care. Moreover, none of these animals were sterilized.

Their owner probably wanted to do well at first, but this person had ended up being overwhelmed by the situation, by his own admission. In addition, she was facing financial difficulties.

This is what explains Penny Blythe director of Friends of Companion Animals. At first there was talk of suing her, but she was cooperative and agreed to let the animals go. It will therefore not be the subject of any complaint.

Most cats suffer from respiratory infections. Taken care of at the refuge, they receive the necessary treatments.

The cats cared for, then offered for adoption

On the other hand, they are rather sociable and friendly, which should facilitate their adoption as soon as their state of health allows it. The team of Friends of Companion Animals will then work to find loving families for them.

This is the largest rescue ever carried out by this organization. Her previous record was 33 rescued cats at another property in County Monroe in March 2021.

Friends of Companion Animals plans to create the first local sterilization and castration clinic, in order to limit cases of feline overpopulation such as those recently encountered. To make this project a reality, the association needs the financial support of the public and businesses in the region.
