At the initiative of Jean-Pierre Vogel and Louis-Jean de Nicolaysenators from Sarthe, two wines from the Loir Valley will make their debut in the cellar of the Senate restaurant in Paris at the start of the school year in September 2022.
The winners were announced this Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at noon at Luxembourg Palace in the presence of selected Sarthois winegrowers, Amandine Fresneau, Olivier Champion, Claire Lelais and Jean-Marie Returnedof Sandrine Paireloenologist from southern Sarthe, senators from Sarthe and a few elected officials.
The winning wines
Two wines were chosen: Cuvée Origine, a Jasnières 2021 from Olivier Champion, winemaker in Poncé-sur-le-Loir; and Coteaux-du-Loir 2019, a 100% Pineau d’Aunis red wine from Jean-Marie Renvoisé de Chahaignes.
The crus were selected by the sommelier of the Senate Christian Meunier and the director of the restaurant, Jean-Christophe Trubert.
These wines have thus joined the prestigious wine list of the Senate. These are the only Pays de la Loire wines to join this very closed circle.
Jean-Marie Renvoisé’s wine will be sponsored by Senator Jean-Pierre Vogel, and that of Olivier Champion by Senator Louis-Jean de Nicolaÿ.
This registration on the restaurant menu follows a request from the senator Jean-Pierre Vogel.
It’s been four years since I asked the restaurant manager to include a Sarthe wine on the menu.
Blind tasting-selection
Thursday April 28, 2022, six winegrowers from the AOC Coteaux-du-Loir and Jasnières took part in a pre-selection of wines, in Lhomme, to appear on the menu of the Senate restaurant from the start of the school year in September 2022.
Parliamentarians, local elected officials and winegrowers took part in this tasting-selection at the blind.

Four pre-selected wines
The wines shortlisted at the end of April 2022 were as follows:
- The Heridainescuvée 2020 coteaux-du-loir white from Domaine Lelais of Ruille-sur-Loir ;
- Vintage Origina Jasnières 2021 from Olivier Champion, winemaker at Ponce-sur-le-Loir ;
- Coteaux du Loir 2019100% Pineau d’Aunis red wine from Jean-Marie Returned of Chahaignes;
- Generation IVred wine coteaux-du-loir 100% pineau d’Aunis from 2021 from domain of Cézin of Amanda and Xavier Fresneau in Marcon.
The two chosen winegrowers are proud to include AOC wines in the Senate. “It’s an honor”, reacts Olivier Champion.
120 bottles ordered
The wines of Olivier Champion and Jean-Marie Renvoisé follow the red wine of Domaine de Bellivière (Lhomme) from Eric Nicholasalready served in the Senate before 2010.

The two Sarthois wines will be delivered at the start of the school year in September. 60 bottles of each cru have been ordered.
In total, 170 winesonly French, are listed on the Senate card.
