The last had been killed in 1913 in the Côtes-d’Armor. It was in the Monts d’Arrée, in Finistère, in the town of Berrien, that he decided to show himself again. A wolf was identified on Wednesday May 4, 2022 by the automatic cameras of Bretagne vivant, an association for the protection of nature. Standing on its three legs, the animal could be “dispersed”, as indicated by the prefecture of Finistère.
A growing presence in the West
This is a behavior usually observed in the species. “In the fall, the young born in the spring fully take their place within the group, forcing other individuals to leave the pack to seek new territory in which to settle”, specifies the press release from the prefecture. The French Office for Biodiversity must be contacted at departmental level in the event of a suspicious sighting “of a large canine” at 02 98 82 69 24.
Its presence is increasingly noticed in France. Recently, it was confirmed in February 2022 after DNA test results, taken from dead animals in Saint-Brévin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique).
