The Horeca asked by its customers to switch to electronic payments: 68% of customers no longer want cash only

According to a study, 68% of Belgians believe that their hotel or restaurant is lagging behind if it is satisfied with cash only.

From this Friday, offering an electronic means of payment will be mandatory for merchants, but also all service businesses. The Horeca is therefore concerned, too. And if the measure does not delight everyone on the side of the owners of cafés, bars, hotels or restaurants, the demand is very real on the side of customers, as evidenced by a study carried out by Lightspeed. “No less than 68% of Belgians support the new legislation which will oblige every merchant to offer at least one electronic payment method from July 1, 2022. This broad support may be linked to the changes in consumer payment habits caused by the pandemic”, we learn.
