Philippe Piton, the chef of the restaurant “Le Rive droite” located in Villecomtal-sur-Arros, died on Monday May 30.
Installed with his wife Myriam since 1985 in a beautiful building, at n ° 1 of the way of Saint-Jacques in Villecomtal-sur-Arros, “Le Rive Droite”, Philippe was a self-taught cook who, at 31, had taken over of his mother-in-law: “I watched her do a lot, I read a lot of books and I acquired the knowledge of the cook without asking myself any questions, without doing an internship”, he mentioned on the official website of La Ronde des Mousquetaires, an association of great Gers chefs of which he was the president. After a scientific baccalaureate, Philippe Piton became interested in research and then took a BEP in cattle and sheep breeding but realized “that the profession of farmer [lui] did not like enough to devote a professional life to it”. From his course, he retained respect for the environment, using products from sustainable agriculture, promoting proximity and taking biodiversity into account.
Philippe Piton had an innate sense of blending flavors, to offer an elegant and simple cuisine at the same time. He had a gift for presenting a dish that flattered the eye, as much as the flavors that exploded in the mouth. With his wife Myriam, he had made Le Rive Droite one of the best restaurants in the Gers, where balance and refinement are always on the menu, echoing the romantic classicism of the place. He had a loyal clientele from Bigourdane.
His funeral will take place this Thursday, June 2 at 3 p.m. at the church of Villecomtal-sur-Arros. All our thoughts go out to Myriam and their two daughters. Philippe, we miss you already. Adishatz the friend.
