Why almonds must become the allies of your diet

In yogurt, with a salad, in a savory dish or simply a plain handful, almonds are the allies of a healthy and balanced diet.

Cakes, fruit, yogurt? It’s not always easy to know what to eat when you’re feeling peckish in the afternoon. If you do not always think of oilseeds, they could nevertheless be allies of your health. A handful of almonds is an excellent healthy snack. As Raphaël Gruman, dietitian and nutritionist quoted by L’Est Eclair, explains, “the ideal food must combine several nutrients: vegetable proteins, good fats, complex carbohydrates and fibres. Here are your allies for a slow release of energy to feel fit for several hours.

And oilseeds such as walnuts, almonds and other hazelnuts meet these criteria as detailed by the nutrition specialist: “These are good foods to be in great shape this summer. With 6g of plant-based protein, 4g of fiber and 13g of healthy unsaturated fats, a 30g serving can help you last longer. You can eat them for breakfast with cottage cheese and red fruits. Or at any meal of the day with a salad of raw vegetables for example. For chocolate addicts, a handful of almonds will accompany the indispensable square of dark chocolate during a short break. Almonds will also make a great late afternoon snack.”

Fight cardiovascular disease

As they have a low glycemic index, almonds are allies of a balanced and varied diet. They are also rich in protein, magnesium and vitamins. For example, the magnesium concentration brings muscle relaxation. Additionally, eating about 30 grams of almonds – or 23 almonds – helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Small in size, the almond has everything of a big one since it provides an excellent feeling of satiety. Perfect to avoid snacking!
